Examina novamente a centralidade da cultura – a enorme expansão de tudo que está associado a ela, na segunda metade do século XX, e o seu papel constitutivo, hoje, em todos os aspectos da vida social. A seguir, considera os aspectos teóricos e conceituais – o amplo poder analítico e explanatório que o conceito de cultura adquiriu na teorização social. Finalmente, retorna ao momento do circuito cultural – a regulação – que é o principal foco desta obra e examina a cultura no contexto das tendências e direções contraditórias da mudança social em relação ao novo milênio.
